Bible verses About Faith

Faith is confidence in what God has promised, even before we see it. These verses explain what faith is and why it matters.

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

Hebrews 11:1

This verse opens the great chapter on faith in Hebrews. Faith is described as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we cannot see. The chapter goes on to celebrate people who lived by that kind of faith.

ReflectConsider reading all of Hebrews 11 this week and noticing how each person's faith shaped their everyday choices.

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

Faith begins with believing that God exists. It continues with trusting that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. The verse presents faith as relationship, drawing near to a God who responds.

ReflectWhat does sincerely seeking God look like for you in this season of life?

I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.

Mark 11:24

Jesus encourages his followers to pray with confident faith. In context, the verse follows a lesson about trusting God and is followed by a call to forgive. Prayer, faith, and forgiveness work together.

ReflectRead the verses that follow, Mark 11 verse 25, and consider how faith and forgiveness connect in your prayers.

For we live by believing and not by seeing.

2 Corinthians 5:7

This short verse summarizes the Christian life. We live by believing, not by seeing. Faith shapes how we walk through each day.

ReflectWhere in your life are you being invited to walk by believing rather than by seeing?

So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

Romans 10:17

Paul explains that faith grows by hearing the Good News about Christ. Listening to and reading Scripture is how faith deepens. It is a reminder of the value of time spent in God's word.

ReflectHow could you add a little more time hearing the Good News this week, through reading, listening, or conversation?

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:6

James uses the image of a wave tossed by the wind. Faith that is settled in God alone brings stability. The verse encourages wholehearted trust when we pray.

ReflectWhat helps settle your faith when you pray, so that it rests in God alone?

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

Matthew 17:20

Jesus uses the mustard seed, one of the smallest seeds, to describe faith. Even a small faith placed in a great God can accomplish great things. It is an encouraging word for anyone whose faith feels small.

A closer look

Going a little deeper.

Hebrews 11 is sometimes called the hall of faith because it celebrates people who trusted God in many different circumstances. Their stories show that faith is lived out in everyday choices, not only in dramatic moments. These verses describe faith as confidence, as a gift, as something that grows by hearing God's word, and as something that can start small like a mustard seed. Reading a Gospel slowly, a chapter at a time, is one of the simplest ways to let faith grow. It allows the Good News about Christ to become familiar and personal.

Faith also grows in community. Hearing how others have trusted God, praying together, and serving side by side can strengthen faith in ways that solitary reading cannot. A small group, a Bible study, or a trusted friend can be a wonderful companion on the journey.

Ways to keep these verses close. Choose one verse to read each morning this week and notice how it shapes your day. Write a favorite verse on a card for your desk, mirror, or nightstand. Share one verse with a friend or family member who might enjoy it, along with a short personal note.

A prayer

Lord, grow my faith. Help me trust your promises and live by believing, not by seeing. Thank you for the gift of grace. Amen.
