Bible verses for Healing

God is described throughout Scripture as one who restores body, heart, and spirit. These verses speak to healing in every sense, and they are good to keep close for yourself or for someone you love.

O Lord, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!

Jeremiah 17:14

Jeremiah speaks with complete confidence that what God heals is truly healed. His prayer moves quickly from request to praise, showing a heart that trusts God's ability fully. It is a simple prayer that anyone can borrow, for themselves or for someone they love.

ReflectWhose name could you bring to God with this prayer today, trusting him with the healing that only he can give?

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.

Psalm 147:3

This verse sits in a psalm that also describes God counting the stars and calling them by name. The same God who arranges the heavens bends low to bandage wounded hearts. The picture is tender and personal, care that is attentive to the smallest hurt.

ReflectHow does it change your view of God to know that the One who names the stars also pays close attention to every wounded heart?

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

Isaiah 53:5

Written centuries before Jesus, this verse is read by Christians as a description of the cross. Each line pairs what he endured with what we receive, wholeness and healing. It reveals that the deepest healing God offers was purchased at great cost and given freely.

ReflectRead this verse slowly and notice each exchange it describes. Which part moves you most as you reflect on the cross?

Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

James 5:15

James writes about praying for one another within a caring community. Prayer offered in faith is presented as powerful, touching both physical well-being and spiritual renewal. The verse encourages people to pray together and to bring every need, body and soul, to God.

ReflectWho in your community could you pray with this week, bringing needs of body and soul to God together?

I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the Lord. “For you are called an outcast— ‘Jerusalem for whom no one cares.’”

Jeremiah 30:17

God speaks this promise to a people who had been labeled outcasts by others. He answers that label with restoration, health returned and wounds healed. It shows that God's healing often includes restoring dignity, reminding people that they are seen and cared for.

ReflectIs there someone you know who has felt overlooked? How might you reflect God's restoring care to them this week?

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.

Psalm 103:2-3

David speaks to his own soul, encouraging it not to forget God's good gifts. Forgiveness and healing are listed side by side, showing that God cares for the whole person. Remembering is an act of worship, and this psalm models a daily habit of gratitude.

ReflectTake a moment to list a few good things God has done for you recently, following David's example of remembering on purpose.

He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”

Exodus 15:26

These words came shortly after Israel crossed the Red Sea. Here God introduces himself with a name, the Lord who heals you. The invitation to listen and follow is paired with a promise of care, and it reveals healing as part of God's very character.

ReflectWhat does it mean to you that healing is part of God's name and character, not only something he occasionally does?

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

3 John 1:2

John opens a personal letter with a warm wish for a friend's health. It is a lovely example of how believers can pray for one another, caring about both body and spirit. Many people use this verse as a blessing in cards and messages to friends.

A closer look

Going a little deeper.

The Bible speaks of healing in several layers, physical health, emotional restoration, renewed relationships, and spiritual wholeness. These verses touch on each of them. Some are prayers, some are promises, and some are blessings spoken over others. Healing in Scripture is often a process as much as a moment, and it frequently happens within a caring community where people pray for one another. Praying for healing does not replace good medical care. Many believers see doctors, nurses, and medicine as part of the way God cares for people. Consider choosing one verse to pray each day for yourself or someone you love.

Many of the healing stories in the Gospels share a common thread. Jesus did not treat people as problems to fix but as persons to know. He asked questions, touched those others avoided, and often restored people to their families and communities along with their health. That pattern reminds us that God's care is personal. When you pray these verses, it can help to be specific, naming the person, the need, and the hope you are bringing to God.

Ways to keep these verses close. Choose one verse to read each morning this week and notice how it shapes your day. Write a favorite verse on a card for your desk, mirror, or nightstand. Share one verse with a friend or family member who might enjoy it, along with a short personal note.

A prayer

Lord, you are the one who heals. I bring you every place that needs restoring, in me and in the people I love. Give us patience, wisdom, and hope as we wait on you. Amen.
