A closer look

Going a little deeper.

Gratitude is one of the most repeated themes in Scripture. The psalms are full of thanksgiving, and Paul encourages believers to be thankful in all circumstances. Gratitude does not ignore difficulty, but it trains our eyes to notice good gifts. A simple daily practice is to write down three specific things you are thankful for and then thank God for each one. Over weeks and months, that list becomes a record of his kindness. These verses are also a beautiful choice for Thanksgiving gatherings, family meals, and thank you notes.

Research on well-being has often found that regular gratitude practices are associated with greater contentment and resilience. Scripture encouraged gratitude long before modern studies, and these verses show why. Gratitude keeps our attention on the Giver.

Ways to keep these verses close. Choose one verse to read each morning this week and notice how it shapes your day. Write a favorite verse on a card for your desk, mirror, or nightstand. Share one verse with a friend or family member who might enjoy it, along with a short personal note.
