Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Paul closes his letter to the church in Corinth with five short commands, almost like a coach's final words before a game. Be alert, stand firm, be courageous, be strong. Then he adds the line that holds it all together, do everything with love. Strength in Scripture is never harsh or self centered. It is courage used in the service of love.
ReflectWhere could you show courage today in a way that is also full of love?
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.
Psalm 37:23-24
David wrote Psalm 37 later in life, looking back on years of watching God's faithfulness. He says the Lord directs the steps of the godly and delights in the details of their lives. The verses are honest that people stumble. But a stumble is not a final fall, because the Lord holds them by the hand. Faithfulness is a walk with God, not a perfect record.
ReflectWhere have you seen God direct your steps, even through a stumble, in the past year?
The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.
Proverbs 20:7
This proverb links personal integrity with the blessing of the next generation. Children, and anyone who looks up to us, learn by watching how we live, whether we keep our word, treat people fairly, and own our mistakes. Integrity means being the same person in public and in private. Over a lifetime, it becomes a legacy others can follow.

But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:11
Paul calls Timothy a man of God and gives him a clear direction. In the verses just before, Paul warned about the love of money and the trouble it brings. Instead of chasing those things, Timothy is to pursue six qualities, righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Gentleness sits right beside perseverance on the list, a balanced picture of godly character.
ReflectWhich of the six qualities in this verse would you like to pursue more intentionally this month?
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
Paul asks believers to carry one another's burdens, which fulfills the law of Christ, the command to love one another. Many men find it easier to help than to ask for help. This verse makes both sides normal. Sharing burdens might mean helping a neighbor move, checking in on a friend, or letting a trusted friend help carry something heavy.
